the killing of whales
The environmental organization Sea Shepherd has done it, probably temporarily, but thanks to its activists Japan has stopped the killing of whales.
Tokio.Jappan has decided to suspend the annual season of whaling in the Antarctic Ocean after an environmental group with a boat chasing the mother ship of Nakaoku flota.Tatsuya of the Fisheries Agency has justified that " Safety is a priority. "
"The fleet of scientific whaling has been suspended for now. We are currently considering what to do in the future," added Tatsuya Nakaoku. The authorities are not ruling ordering the fleet to return to Japanese ports, while Nakaoku has said that Tokyo will not give up easily on whaling.
The fleet, composed of 180 employees in four boats, wanted to get up to 850 minke whales in March, when the season ends. In the same period last year gave chase to 506 of these specimens, although the target was also set at 850.
A few months ago claimed Australia to Japan before the International Court of Justice based in The Hague, to stop its activities in the Antarctic Ocean, but is not expected that the international body to make a decision before 2013.
The Japanese government uses the scientific whaling to avoid the moratorium imposed in 1986 and argues it is entitled to examine the impact of whales on its fishing industry. Japan is one of the three countries in the world who hold this activity, of great value in their culture.
